Ahead of the UEFA Futsal Champions League, we caught up with Jordan Edge.
Jordan Edge, the captain of Manchester Futsal Club and a highly-rated player for the England National Futsal Team, shares his journey into futsal, his experiences, and his aspirations.
Early Beginnings in Warrington
Jordan Edge hails from Warrington, a town known for its rugby culture. Growing up in a football-enthusiastic family, Jordan found his passion early. "I got into futsal at 15 through my football club, Warrington Town. Our coach, Ian Bateman, encouraged us to try futsal. As a Manchester United fan, I chose Manchester and quickly progressed to the first team at 16," Jordan recalls.
The Allure of Futsal
Jordan, a former central midfielder, was immediately drawn to the dynamic nature of futsal. "Futsal was another level of what I loved about football. I was hooked on how quickly a game can change and the endless movements and tactics," he explains.
A significant early memory for Jordan was playing in the FA Futsal Cup right after finishing his GCSE exams. "We reached the final against a pro Baku squad, and I got to play alongside top players like Jose Carlos and Carlos Munoz. It was an exciting experience at such a young age."
Self-Motivation and Team Leadership
Jordan's biggest inspiration has always been himself. "From the moment I started playing, I pushed myself to improve. I aim to help my teammates improve because seeing us succeed together is my ultimate goal."
Representing Manchester Futsal Club is a point of pride for Jordan. "Manchester is at the forefront of futsal in the UK. The players and coaching staff are like family, and I'd do anything for them."
As the captain, Jordan's role has evolved over the years. "I've taken on a senior role, helping the lads with guidance from my experiences. I'm proud to be the captain. Positionally, I'm a Fix, but I often adapt to different roles as needed."
Mental Game and Superstitions
Jordan believes success in futsal is more about mental agility than physical skills. "Futsal is a mental game. You have to outthink your opponent. The winner is the one who's one step ahead." Jordan admits to being very superstitious. "I always put my right-sided kit on first, eat the same food before a game, and drink the same drinks. I also have to score with the last touch of my warm-up."
Motivation and Aspirations
Jordan's drive for improvement keeps him motivated. "With the Champions League coming up, it shows us what hard work can bring. My aim is to push the club as far as I can and make it one of the biggest in Europe."
Hosting the UEFA Futsal Champions League in Manchester is a historic moment for Jordan and his club. "It's amazing to create history. We’re going in all guns blazing and looking forward to competing against European champions."
Jordan has been preparing intensively for the Champions League. "I took some time off with my girlfriend and family and worked hard in the gym to recover from a slight knock. I’m super excited and can see how hungry all the players are."
Community Impact and Personal Interests
Jordan believes futsal can positively impact young athletes. "It's a challenging game that requires commitment and effort. Every young player should give futsal a try; you'll get hooked instantly."
His advice to young players is simple: "Be patient and enjoy yourself. Futsal is about loving the sport you play and enjoying the successes."
Outside of futsal, Jordan enjoys going to the gym, gaming, hiking, and camping. "I see futsal as both a hobby and a sport. I love watching videos and developing my knowledge."
A fun fact about Jordan? "I once sat an A-level psychology exam in a high school in China!"
Jordan Edge's journey is a testament to passion, dedication, and continuous self-improvement. As he leads Manchester Futsal Club into the UEFA Futsal Champions League, his story inspires young athletes to pursue their futsal dreams.
